Year of Flowers Crazy Quilt

I made this crazy quilt, machine pieced and hand embellished over a period of about 5 years.  The design is from  one of the Piecemakers of Californai calendars (2001).  The was a delight to work on one block at a time.  I loved collecting all the bits and pieces and the "perfect" fabrics for the quilt.  The center embroidered panel was one of the largest embroidered pieces I had done at the time.  Many of the center flowers are stitched using the bias cut Hanah silk ribbon,  There is lots of Thread Gatherer and YLI silk ribbon used also.  I believe this calendar is still available from Piecemakers - it is really a bargain because not only do you get the cover photo of this quilt with complete (and I mean complete) instructions, you also get full size pictures of 12 other seasonal blocks that actually are the calendarThe quilt was completed in December of 2007 and so far is the largest crazy quilt project I have completed.  Of course, others are in the works!!

The Clary Sage represents February

The Wild Rose represents December

Sunflowers for November and valerian is for October
Catnip is for Septermber

Chicory is for July
The Thistle represents May

The Tea Rose is for January

The center panel is surrouned by a block for each month with a flower in the center of each block representing that month.  The first block stitched (January) in the upper left corner was my first ever piece of crazy patchwork/quilting I had done.  Many pieces were made in between each of these blocks while the quilt was a work in progress!

The Nasturtium represents April
The Flax is for June and the Violet is for March
The Passion Flower is for February
